The Power of Unknown

In the last episode of the Game of Thrones, Tryion Lannister quoted the following words:

What unites People?

Armies?

Gold?

Flags?

Stories.

There's nothing more powerful in the world than a good story.

Nothing can stop it.

No enemy can defeat it

We all grew up with stories in such a way, that it is still engraved in some part of our minds. We can correlate some events from our past to those stories. In my case the stories were of characters from one of the great epics the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. It was told to me, that everything that has occurred in the past and that is about to happen in future, is already mentioned in the Bhagawat Gita which is part of the Mahabharat. If you read it once, it'll answer all your questions. The stories are told to us in such a manner that most of us become a theist, atheist or an agnostic.

Till few years back, I considered myself as atheist, because right from childhood I questioned the characters from the Epic. I never got satisfactory answer, so never believed in the concept of God. But there were desperate times when I prayed to the unknown embodiment, which was the result from the observation of the family and peers, I guess from that day I became an agnostic. I still question the God, not as a person, but as the influence of unknown power that they have and we are made to believe.

I have often wondered, when I was in school that why some people were punished for expressing their thoughts or actions. We can consider the example of Giordano Bruno who was one of the first person to discover that that the stars were distant suns surrounded by their own planets, and he raised the possibility that these planets might foster life of their own. Just for expressing such idea he was jailed so many times, and the reason quoted was thought-crime. There are many other examples, that you and I have came across in our lifetime. From what I have inferred after observing umpteen number of events till the date, is the power of unknown. Its the power that even today every human, every system is afraid/feared/scared/terrified off. We may not realize, but we are, directly or indirectly. Let's consider if the knowledge that Bruno shared would have been public and lets consider that there's no restriction over the discussion for the same. There would be n number of chain of events that could have happened. Slowly people would have questioned the very existence of the written records/the practices/the rules of society, issued by the authorities at that time. The system once stable would have been to its knees and world that we are currently living would have be unfathomable. In order to break this endless chain, the system punished him to set an example for the others, that is the power of fear, which knowingly or unknowingly gives stability to the our system.

We all witness the power of unknown in our daily lives. If someone calls us in the middle of the night and says, someone is standing in front of your door, most of us will try to imagine that unknown, there will be a range of emotions that one can witness. Its because of the power of unknown that morality have never been same in human beings, because of the consequences that one may face as a result of ones action. Its for the power of unknown due to which every nation wants to be ahead than their counterpart. The current world is at halt, not because of the known COVID-19, but because of the unknown vaccine, for which future is yet to be destined.

Indeed the unknown comes with power and unlike any power has two aspects: positive and negative. If it wouldn't have been for this unknown, Copernicus wouldn't have postulated the heliocentric system, if it wouldn't have been for the unknown, we would have never witnessed the very idea of God, if it wouldn't have been for the unknown curiosity of humans, we would have never lived in the way we're living now, instead would have been rubbing stones for a single spark of fire in some cave. Its the very power of unknown that has pushed the human race forward till the date.

In 11/22/63 by Stephen King, we get to know, how the alteration of past can lead to the unknown consequences of the future and through the WestWorld created and directed by Jonathan Nolan and others we get to see the glimpse of the unknown future, for which the foundation has already been laid by the Internet Giants today. Long time back I read a concept of future of the IT Industry. Companies will have virtual campuses, where an employee will just need a company issued VR set and their office will be all set. There are endless examples that have fascinated me and you, to our core. Some maybe on better terms and some maybe opposite to that, but do believe in the power of unknown as it can change the very course of life that we have been living till the date, which can be started by changing lifestyle/forming new hobby/reading books, etc. In nutshell, if I have to sum up the above written words, we're all in a quest to find our unknowns. How it'll turn out? Well that is unknown😉
